About SKTC And The Arts We PracticeAt the shaolin Kempo Training center we train to improve our physical and mental selves. We do this through the study of martial arts. At SKTC a student may choose to achieve rank in Kosho Shorei Ryu Kenpo, Shaolin Kenpo, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Our training covers many aspects of martial arts ranging from meditation, Tai-Chi, and Yoga, to Striking and Grappling. If you are interested in becoming a more well rounded martial artist and doing more than just punching and kicking, then SKTC may be the dojo for you. Shaolin KempoThis is the art form which the majority of our students study. This art form was originated by Fred Villari and is widely studied in the United States. Shaolin Kempo is characterized by studying katas, combinations, and kempos which help students learn how to apply the techniques learned in class. Sensei Bonk promotes students up to 3rd degree black belt in this system. Kosho Ryu KempoKosho Ryu Kempo is an art form originating in Japan and was brought to the States by James Mitose. He then handed down this art form to the current grandmaster, Hanshi Bruce Juchnik. Many martial arts, especially those including the word "kenpo" or "kempo," can trace lineage to Grandmaster Mitose. This is a multi-faceted art which goes far beyond the traditional war arts of most martial arts systems. Studying into Kosho will bring students to restorative arts such as Shiatsu, meditative arts such as Shodo (brush calligraphy), and soft and hard war arts. A much more detailed description can be found here. Sensei Bonk is authorized to promote students to Brown Belt in Kosho Ryu Kempo as the awarding of black belt is under the sole responsibility of Hanshi Juchnik. Brazilian Jiu-JitsuBrazilian Jui-Jitsu is a martial art that focuses on using leverage and the forces your opponent creates. This martial art does not focus on size equating to strength ad teaches us how to use our entire bodies and some simple physics of the lever to dominate much larger opponents. Much of this art form concentrates on submission wrestling and working your opponents to the ground. Many of our students study this art to compliment their Kempo. All ranking in this art is granted by Allan Manganello, a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt.
